Why Aren't Students Sitting at their Desks?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This workshop will offer ideas and tools to promote inquiry-based, personalized learning to meet the needs of all students. Children are encouraged to investigate their natural curiosity to study a topic they are passionate about as a means to conduct research, understand the content in greater depth, and possibly connect with experts from across the globe using technology-based communication tools. Students then have choice in how they design, create, and share these projects with an authentic audience, including classmates, teachers, and families, and potentially the entire Internet-connected world. This launch process of publicly sharing either multimedia portfolios or traditional presentation models sets a purpose and motivates students to produce high quality work. Students may, and most likely will fail in their initial plan or at some point in their journey. And then they will learn, innovate, adapt, and discover how to proceed, with student as leader, and teacher as facilitator, encourager, and supporter. The process is messy, but powerful….like real life. Once you experience it, you will never turn back. Come re-energize yourself!
